Workshop on the topic of Criminalization of Marital Rape

February 26, 2022, Saturday. An online workshop on the topic “Criminalization of Marital Rape: A Legal and Social Perspectives” was held by Vidhigram.com and the Streaming Law Magazine. The speakers were Dr. Vidyottma Jha, Advocate, Supreme Court, and Ms. Rapti Mishra, Assistant Professor, Delhi University. The program moderator was Nidhi Bindal, Advocate. The Delhi High Court is hearing a batch of Public Interest Litigation on Criminalization of Marital Rape. This hearing makes an occasion for public discussion on this topic.

Both the speakers threw light on various aspects of this topic. They agreed that even though there is some problem in proving this type of offense and also misuse of this law is possible, it is the need of the hour to discuss and address a hidden problem of forceful and humiliating sexual relations by husbands with their wife. All participants appreciated this workshop and found it a successful and healthy discussion.
