A successful and informative virtual workshop on “sedition law in India” was held on 30th May 2022, organized by Vidhigraam.com and ‘the Streaming Law’ magazine. The expert speakers on this topic were Mr. Shiva Nand Mishra, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, Dr. Sumitra Singh, and Mr. Nitan Sharma, Associate Professors in Amity Law School. The program moderator was Ms. Ritu Khera, Advocate, Supreme Court.

Dr. Sumitra Singh energetically explained various aspects of sedition law. Mr. Nital Sharma emphasized the necessity of such laws. Mr. Shiva Nand Mishra categorically explained the legal aspect of the verdict.

Sedition cases against Disha Ravi, Sharjil Imam, etc more than two dozen names that occupied headlines across the nation in recent years. These cases grabbed the attention not only of the legal fraternity but civil society too.

It has been the first time that the apex court suspended the applicability of section 124A of IPC which is the basic sedition law in India vide its interim order dated 11th May 2022. It is the first time that the central government show flexibility in its view and is ready to review this law.
